Preparation for Sunday, 2/5/2012

Song Preparation: I encourage you listen to these songs each week so that you are familiar with them by the time we sing on Sunday. I always find that becoming more familiar with the lyrics to a song gives me more freedom to be led by the Holy Spirit as I worship. We won’t play these song exactly as they sound below but this is a good start! I would encourage you to go to itunes or any other music download site and purchase these songs for your music library. That way you can spend more time listening to them and learning the lyrics!

Here is some scripture that goes well with the songs we will sing this Sunday.
At the foot of the CrossPsalm 71:8, 146:2, 150:6; 1 Corinthians 1:8
FuriousEphesians 3:14-21, Romans 8:36-38
One Thing RemainsLamentations 3:22, 1 Corinthians 13:8, 1 John 4

We will be singing a new song this week called “Furious”. This word can often have a negative connotation, but I would challenge you to think differently about the meaning of “furious” when it comes to how much Christ loves us. We will never fully grasp the true force and intensity of Gods love, but we know that scripture says in Romans 8:36-38 that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord! So as you listen to this new song, think about how much God loves you and how we are more that conquerors through him who loved us. This truth truly has the power to change us!

We will also be saying a prayer of confession together this Sunday. This is a way for us to corporately confess our sins and failures to Christ but at the same time know that those sins have been paid by Jesus’ death and glorious resurrection. Please take some time to read the prayer below to prepare yourself for Sunday.

Holy Lord,
I have sinned so many times.
I am guilty of pride and unbelief.
I fail to find joy in your Word
I neglect to seek you in my daily life.
My faults and shortcomings present me
with a list of accusations,
but I know that you will not stand against me,
because all my failures have been laid on Christ.
Purge from me every evil desire and false aspiration,
everything contrary to your rule.
I thank you for your wisdom and love
that points me to the good news of Jesus!
Amen
